Jindal Stainless reduces 2.4 lakh tons of CO2 emissions in the past two fiscal years

(JSL) is implementing a number of strategies to cut its emissions’ carbon content to zero by 2050. “In the last two fiscals (FY22 and FY23), the company has managed to successfully reduce 2.4 lakh tonnes of Co2 emissions) taking it a step closer towards carbon neutrality and responsible manufacturing,” the statement stated.

According to the company, it has begun operating utilizing renewable energy sources. Additionally, it has begun to produce green hydrogen for use in the steel-making process. In addition, JSL has upgraded its technology and implemented digitalization at its Odisha and Haryana facilities to improve energy efficiency and use of electric vehicles.

The company aims to cut over 13.52 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions yearly by the targeted year, while producing over 1.9 billion units of clean electricity annually.

“These initiatives have contributed to the significant reduction of approximately 2.4 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions over the past two fiscal years,” the company added.

The Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) of the United Kingdom offers a framework for companies to set ambitious emission reduction targets that are in line with climate science, as well as standards, tools, and guidance.
