Have you recently had a lot of dining out? Unfortunately, enjoying a meal out can occasionally have a high cost: gaining weight. Be at ease if you’re afraid of gaining those extra pounds after overindulging at that restaurant. In an Instagram post, dietitian Richa Gangani revealed her “cheat sheet to avoid weight gain the next day” following a meal out.

Is having a light dinner a good idea?

1. Have a modest dinner beforehand.
A somewhat light dinner will help you counterbalance that big lunch, so try not to overeat. A meal high in calories might be lessened by giving your stomach a rest.

2. Sip on warm water or green tea.
Drink warm liquids such as water or green tea to promote fat burning and facilitate digestion.

3. Take a little stroll

Take a slow walk to combat that heavy sensation and bloating. After a large meal, even a quick walk might help with digestion and revive you.

4. Avoid attempting a crash diet
Avoid the temptation to go on crash diets in order to make up for your excess. Self-starvation is not a sustainable or healthful practice. Rather than trying to make major changes, learn to listen to your body and eat in response to signals of hunger.

5. Never miss a meal

It is ineffective to skip meals in an effort to “make up” for overindulgence. It can cause bad eating habits and slow down your metabolism. Maintaining balance and consistency is essential for long-term weight control.

Ritika Samaddar, regional head, south zone, nutrition and dietetics at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket mentioned in conversation with Indian Express, “Firstly, eat out only once or maximum twice a week. Cut down on portion size. Avoid consuming sweetened beverages and instead opt for fresh lime water, coconut water or chaas (butter milk). Always order a plate of salad or a vegetable soup as a side dish, as it will fill you up sooner, keeping calorie intake low. Hydrating well with plain water will also satiate you. Lastly, most restaurants mention the calories content of the food items, so read the labels or nutrition facts before ordering”.
