Someone undergoing ‘Thyroid’ needs to be highly cognizant about the food habits to avoid dire situations. There are selective food items which can trigger the thyroid and henceforth a healthy and balanced diet is crucial to plan and abide. Nutritionist Apurva Agarwal shares a checklist to manage thyroid disorders.

Tofu: Tofu cubes in a mixture of turmeric, garlic and ginger and also pan-fried tofu can be a good protein option but could trigger the thyroid.

Green vegetables: Vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are rich in goiter. Although it has many health benefits, eating too much can affect thyroid function.

Millets: Millets like bajra (pearl millet), ragi (finger millet) and jowar (sorghum) contain grains that can cause thyroid problems if eaten in large quantities.

Flaxseeds & mustard seeds: Flaxseeds are rich in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. Eating too many flaxseeds can have a negative effect on thyroid function. Both poppy seeds and mustard seeds contain goitrogens substances that should be consumed in moderation by those with thyroid problems.

Nuts: This product contains compounds called goitrogens, which can cause thyroid dysfunction when consumed in large amounts. However, it is important to note that the goitrogenic effects of nuts are mild in nature and only cause problems when consumed in large quantities.
