Natural therapies are becoming more and more popular in the skincare industry. One such treatment that has gained popularity is the tomato and honey mask, which several celebrities, including Roshni Chopra, have hailed as a skin-saving solution. “Let’s try the viral tomato and honey mask to brighten and tighten my dull skin,” Chopra mentioned in a video wherein she explained the process of making the mask. “Cut a tomato in half and mix in a few drops of honey, then gently rub on the face for a few minutes and leave to dry for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off and apply moisturiser,” she added.
But is it worth the while? In conversation with Indian Express, Dr Monica Bambroo, head of dermatology & cosmetology at Artemis Hospital, Gurgaon, cleared the air about the organic mask.

“Tomatoes are a great source of lycopene, which is a very strong antioxidant. It provides protection against harmful UV rays. Rich in vitamin C and E, tomatoes also help in brightening the skin and improving its texture,” she shared.
However, honey is a natural antimicrobial that keeps the skin hydrated, which makes it perfect for dry, acne-prone skin, according to Dr. Bambroo.
“Using honey and tomato together can help in reducing inflammation, moisturising and hydrating the skin, treating acne, and giving an even skin tone,” she added.
“Tomatoes have acids and when applied to the skin might cause irritation, redness, and a stinging sensation, especially if used too often or left on for too long. Meanwhile, honey has a sticky texture, and the lack of its proper removal can cause clogged pores and acne breakouts in some people,” Dr Bambroo added.

“Those who have sensitive skin or are prone to acne breakouts must skip using it altogether. People with certain skin conditions must also refrain from applying this mask as its application can lead to irritation, redness, and other issues,” Dr Bambroo gave a cautionary remark about using honey.
