Just as the Dharma Productions, especially films made by Karan Johar – good looking actors, beautiful locales, great music, loads of instant tears – Good Newwz proves to be the ‘perfect example’ of the films made by the production house.
But with the change of audience’s expectations from the films, makers have made sure that with all the glittery glamour and drama, the plot of the film remains intact. With Akshay Kumar as the lead, the need for a unique subject was important.
Therefore, this comic drama explores what exactly IVF means and what can happen when two married couples get to know that the husbands’ sperms have reached the wrong wives.
Starting off as a fresh breathe of air, the film witnesses witty and lunatic exchanges, endless banter, copious chaos, and some sharp comic timing from the actors – Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani.
Till the interval is announced, the film moves fast, just like a roller-coaster ride. Then after that come tears.
The film directed and co-written by Raj Mehta becomes very emotional and slow in the second half and almost loses all its fun.
The best thing about ‘Good Newwz’ is that it doesn’t teach you anything about the subject or give any direct references. With the film, the director and writer have just attempted to tell you about the new concept with an interesting line-up story and comedy with confusion.
