Fanney Khan Story: ‘Fanney Khan’ is a story which talks about humans and their hopes, dreams and relationships. It’s about a dad who will persevere relentlessly to put his little girl on the fabulous stage as the next mega-singing star of India. It is the remake of the 2002 Oscar nominated Belgian film Everybody’s Famous.
Fanney Khan Review: He couldn’t make his dream true of becoming Mohammad Rafi, yet harbors one, of his girl getting to be the next Lata Mangeshkar. Prashant Sharma (Anil Kapoor) famously known as Fanney Khan among his gulley friends, strives to make a decent living, reveres Shammi Kapoor and lives just for his fantasy of superstardom. Despite all attempts, failing and pinning down his only hope in his daughter, Fanney Khan is quite a good watch for the audience.
Storyline: Presently in her teenagers, Lata sings well as well as dances well in spite of her hefty size that consistently makes her a laughing stock on the stage. Anil Kapoor hits all the right notes as a beleaguered father, who is often reprimanded by his own child for being so unflinchingly dedicated in his mission to see her succeed. He strikes the correct balance for a working class man in Mumbai battling amongst dreams and reality. This even as his significant other Kavita (Divya Dutta) keeps on being his compassionate voice of reason.
As a debutante, Pihu Sand catches the weakness of her character, yet one never comprehends her consistent grouse against her dad. As the superstar vocalist Baby Singh, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looks befittingly lovely, however her storyline is at times perceived a bit out of logic. The skilled Rajkummar Rao as Prashant’s closest friend Adhir, has a role with usual flair within a limited scope. While Rajkumar’s chemistry with Aishwarya appears to be constrained, his comic timings acts as a savior.
While the second half is long and relentless, the fine performances by the actor keep the pontoon above water. For a melodic, Fanney Khan’s soundtrack doesn’t live up completely with the exception of the Achche Din tune which is charming and the finale tune that oozes vitality.
By and large, ‘Fanney Khan’ is an elegant melodic that begins on a high note and has its moments of greatness. It indicates how parents live their lives through kids.
Worth a watch.
