On March 27, L2 Empuraan the eagerly awaited action film with Mohanlal in the lead role was finally released in the theaters. The opening day collection of the Prithviraj Sukumaran-directed film was enormous and broke all previous records. Even while the movie hasn’t yet surpassed Lucifer’s lifetime total, the most recent box office report from Sacnilk.com indicates that it saw increase on its first Sunday. According to Hindustan Times, L2 Empuraan has surpassed ₹50 crore.
After four days, L2 Empuraan collected ₹59.35 crore, according to the report. By earning a record ₹21.5 crore on its first day of release, the movie exceeded box office projections and set a new record for Malayalam films. Day three collections were stable at ₹13.25 crore, although day two numbers declined to ₹11.1 crore. The movie has witnessed growth over the weekend, with day four receipts currently standing at ₹14.00 crore based on preliminary estimates.
Overall, L2 Empuraan’s Malayalam occupancy rate on Sunday was 77.02 percent. The film will now have competition at the box office from Salman Khan’s Eid blockbuster Sikandar, which debuted in theaters throughout the nation on March 30.
L2: The second part of a planned trilogy, Empuraan follows the success of Lucifer (2019). The film also stars Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Manju Warrier.
After backlash on the scene featuring riots, Mohanlal promised his fans on Facebook that “such subjects” would not be included in the movie. He penned in Malayalam: “I have come to know that some of the political and social themes that have come into play in the film Empuran, the second part of the Lucifer franchise, have caused great distress to many of my loved ones. As an artiste it is my duty to ensure that none of my films harbors hatred towards any political movement, ideology or sect.”
