Andhadhun — a perilously fiendish spine chiller with dollops of dark comedy is going to keep you in suspense all while you watch till the end. Not many movie directors figure out how to split this sort and Sriram is capable at it. His film astutely addresses your faith in ‘seeing is believing’.
Truly, dazzle heroes make for delicious spine chillers and Raghavan guarantees he doesn’t think twice either. Enlivened by a French short film L’Accordeur or The Piano Tuner (2010) by Olivier Treiner, AndhaDhun is a scary story of dread, trickery and wrongdoing, that keeps you on the edge of your seat as it prods your psyche. A ‘Scream’ (Hollywood slasher) scene in particular, acts as a classic jump scare.
A splendid screenplay and wonderfully made account by Raghavan, the story’s characters and intriguing scenes, keep you bolted. While the first half is packed with a mix of palpitating pressure, anticipation and drama in great Raghavan style, the second half droops a bit. The plot gets a bit turbulent and convoluted as opposed to its terrific build-up.
Ayushmann Khurrana, the lead, is sure shot an intense treat to watch. While he lends that easy simplicity to each job he takes, AndaDhun is the most amazing project of his profession up until this point, and clearly shows his versatility to a greater extent. Tabu is exceptional as always and Sairat’s (Marathi blockbuster) performing artist Chaya Kadam and Ashwini Kalsekar leave a longing effect on the audience. Yesteryear performing artist Anil Dhawan shows up and Amit Trivedi’s music gives an eerie edge to the film.
AndhaDhun is a spine chiller that keeps you on your toes and leaves you guessing all the way!
