Laxmaan Utekar’s landmark action movie Chhaava debuted in theaters last week to positive acclaim from both reviewers and viewers with Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna in the major roles. The movie took a hit on its debut Monday, earning ₹140.50 crore over four days, according to Sacnilk.
According to the website, Chhaava made ₹24 crore net on its first Monday, bringing its total revenue to ₹140.50 crore net, based on preliminary projections. Last Friday, the movie broke Gully Boy’s record of ₹19.40 crore with an opening of ₹31 crore, the most of any Valentine’s Day movie. It brought in ₹37 crore and ₹48.5 crore over the weekend, a huge rise in collections.
Vicky told ANI that portraying Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj was his “toughest role” to date. To portray the historical character, he underwent extensive mental and physical training, both in terms of his appearance and his knowledge of the time period.
“Playing such a historical figure requires a lot of discipline, and discipline is tough. If you are not used to discipline, where I was, it becomes very challenging because it’s not just a one-month commitment; it’s a commitment for one and a half to two years,” Vicky stated, further mentioning, “I’m just happy that I get to say that this is the toughest role I’ve played till date. I hope I can continue to grow, not just as an actor but as a human being, with every role I take on.”
Chhaava is directed by Laxman and produced by Maddock Films’ Dinesh Vijan. The background score and soundtrack for the movie has been composed by AR Rahman. Vicky portrays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the movie, and Rashmika plays Yesubai Bhonsale, his wife, while Akshaye plays Aurangzeb and Diana portrays Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, his daughter.
