Former Sri Lanka cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne hospitalized after horrific car accident; Report

Former Sri Lanka captain Lahiru Thirimanne was hospitalized on Thursday morning after a horrific accident involving the car he was driving near the country’s north-central city of Anuradhapura, as per reports.

ESPNcricinfo reported that Thirimanne is now in stable condition at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, despite the fact that the nature of his injury is yet unknown.

“At least one other passenger from the car Thirimanne was in, is also receiving care at the same hospital. Thirimanne is understood to have been on pilgrimage when the accident occurred. Essentially the car had crashed into a lorry travelling in the opposite direction,” quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Thirimanne made his international debut in 2010 and went on to play 26 T20Is, 127 ODIs, and 44 Test matches. He took part in two ODI World Cups and three T20 World Cups, one of which Sri Lanka won in 2014. He travelled internationally for the last time in March of 2022. In July 2023, he announced his retirement from international cricket after 13 years of play.
