Manchester City’s Ederson set to miss Arsenal clash with four-week layoff

Manchester City’s Ederson set to miss Arsenal clash with four-week layoff

After a late challenge on Darwin Nunez, the Brazilian injured his leg and the home team was awarded a penalty. Alexis Mac Allister then scored a 12-yard equalizer to tie the score. Ederson remained on the pitch shortly before being replaced by Stefan Ortega 11 minutes into the second half. According to the Manchester Evening News, the Brazilian will be out for three to four weeks, which means he will most likely miss the Premier League title game against Arsenal on March 31.

Ederson will be badly missed as City faces Arsenal, but they will also be missing their best goalkeeper for several other important games. Ortega will have to step in for Ederson in the quarter-finals against Newcastle on Saturday, as expected and league games against Aston Villa (April 3) and Crystal Palace (April 6) may also come too soon. The injury is also a setback for City’s quest to reclaim their European championship, as the Brazilian will most certainly miss the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals on April 9/10.

Since joining City in 2017, Ederson has been an important player in the team and is rarely injured. In his almost 7 seasons with the City, the 30-year-old has only missed 12 games, seven of which were because of illness, according to Transfermarkt.

As they continue their quest for a historic second consecutive triple, Pep Guardiola will be without his best goalkeeper. Before club football pauses for the international break, City will play Newcastle in the FA Cup quarterfinals on Saturday.
