World No. 1 Iga Swiatek sweeps past Maria Sakkari for second Indian Wells title

World no. 1 Iga Swiatek won the Indian Wells Masters on Sunday, defeating Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-0 in just over an hour. Throughout the 12-day tournament, Swiatek lost only 21 games in six matches, an average of 3.5 games per match. With her victories leading the WTA Tour, Swiatek advanced to 20-2 this year.

Swiatek defeated Sakkari 6-4, 6-1 in the final, which was a repeat of 2022. Sakkari has not defeated the Polish star since 2021.

Swiatek jumped off to an early 3-0 lead in the first set. Sakkari bounced back to win three games in a row, including one against Swiatek. 4–4 after she served a love game. For the rest of the set, Swiatek only dropped two points on her serve and won on her forehand in the corner. In the second set, Swiatek showed greater dominance, breaking Sakkari three times in love games. In the set, she dropped just five points.

She joined Steffi Graf and Lindsay Davenport as the only other women to win a 6-0 set in the Indian Wells final.  In the one-hour and eight-minute match, Swiatek made 11 unforced errors and had 15 wins. Sakkari made 8 winners and 18 unforced errors.
