The loss of renowned Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal is currently being dealt with by the entertainment industry. Many of his B-town pals are surprised by this because the Manthan director celebrated his 90th birthday with some of his closest colleagues from the business nine days ago. Pictures from his party, which included Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Divya Dutta, and others, are all over social media right now.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient Shyam Benegal celebrated his 90th birthday on December 14, 2024, with a few of his closest friends from the Hindi film business. Shabana Azmi, a senior actress, posted images from the private event on social media shortly after the celebration.

Azmi posted a photo of herself and her co-stars on her X (previously Twitter) account: “Some of his actors with Shyam Benegal’s on his 90th birthday Mashallah,” she wrote.

She went on to post on Instagram ft Naseeruddin Shah, “On #Shyam Benegal’s 90th birthday with my co-actor of many films and my favourite actor @Naseeruddin Shah. Why aren’t more people casting us together ?!!”

Post the unfortunate news, Akshay Kumar wrote, “Pained to know of Shyam Benegal ji’s demise. One of the finest filmmakers in our country, truly a legend. Om Shanti.”

Kajol expressed her condlences, “Deeply saddened by the loss of the legendary Shyam Benegal. His contributions to Indian cinema are immeasurable and his legacy with live on through his incredible body of work.”

Pia Benegal verified that Shyam Benegal died at the age of 90, according to an article in India Today. According to reports, he passed away at 6:30 PM from a persistent kidney-related illness. The film industry and his fans were stunned to learn that the director had been admitted to Mumbai’s Wockhardt Hospital for treatment.

A week ago, on December 14, 2024, he celebrated his birthday with his family, friends, and fellow film industry professionals. Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Divya Dutta, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Kunal Kapoor were spotted at the gala.

Benegal directed some of the best Hindi films of the 1970s and 1980s and created his first movie at the age of 12 with a camera his father had given him.

Shyam was well-known for her films with strong female leads and socially conscious themes. He was renowned for sensitively and thoroughly presenting these topics, which has motivated a new generation of filmmakers.

He produced well-known movies including Zubeidaa, starring Karisma Kapoor, and Ankur, Manthan, Mandi (1983). In addition, Benegal received numerous honors over his career, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2005, the highest accolade in Indian cinema, the Padma Shri in 1976, the Padma Bhushan in 1991, and the 18 National Film Awards.
