Jaat starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda is among the most anticipated films of the years to arrive on OTT. The film was released on April 10, 2025, and emerged a commercial hit.

According to Jagran English, Netflix had bought the digital rights after few day of its theatrical release. If proven accurate, the film will be aired on OTT platform on June 5, 2025.

About Jaat and upcoming Jaat 2

Jaat is written and directed by Gopichand Malineni. The film stars Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, P. Ravi Shankar, and Babloo Prithiveeraj in important roles.

The music has been composed by S. Thaman, cinematography managed by Rishi Punjabi and editing done by Naveen Nooli. Jaat tells the venture of a lone who battles to revive justice, through courage, strength, ethics and resilience.

After the massive success of the film, Sunny Deol had officially announced the sequel, Jaat 2. On Instagram, the actor posted film’s poster and wrote, “Jaat is back on a new mission. Catch Sunny Deol as Brigadier Baldev Pratap Singh (Jat Regiment).”

Jaat is now running on the theaters starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hood roles. It have managed to win over the viewers as it continue to relish a decent run. Nonetheless, the team recently was slammed with FIR against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar Singh stating a controversial scene from the film. To which, the team has responsibly reacted by removing the contentious part from the film. The scene which caused an imposition of a FIR, allegedly hurt religious sentiments of a particular community.

Jaat looped in controversy

On April 18, 2025, director of the film posted on Instagram, “There has been a backlash for a specific scene in the film. The scene has been removed from the film with immediate effect.”

The statement added, “Our intention was not to hurt any religious sentiments. We deeply regret it and have taken a quick action of deleting the scene from the film. We sincerely apologize to everyone whose beliefs have been hurt.”

As reported by The Times of India, a First Information was filed at the Jalandhar police station. The FIR read that the controversial scene degraded the Christian community and henceforth, a complaint was lodged under the section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In conversation with NDTV, the complainant said, the film’s director, writer, and producer purposefully released it during the holy months of Good Friday and Easter, and it created nationwide riots, and sow discontent. He also called for the movie to be scrapped off completely.

Jaat features the story of Baldev Pratap Singh, who drives for the pursuit of justice while contesting for a criminal named Ranatunga. Serving as an element of surprise, Randeep Hooda was casted as the main antagonist alongside Sunny Deol as the lead. Jaat has now wrapped off with the first week of its box office run.

The film was released on April 10, 2025, and minted Rs 55.75 crore. According to reports, it will foresee a good run on the weekdays.

Jaat minted an average collection on its first week, except the double-digit figures on Sunday. The film successfully received major stakes in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Central India.

Post the opening week, people were inquisitive to see how will Jaat eventually perform after the anticipated courtroom drama Kesari Chapter 2 will arrive at the box office with an estimated opening collection of Rs 7 crore.

Sunny Deol’s fans are anticipating the release of Lahore 1947 amidst the release of Jaat. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, the film is based on the drama Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Ni by Asghar Wajahat. This year’s Republic Day was intended to see its big screen debut, but it was later postponed. Deol has now spoken out about the film’s unprecedented delay.

Speaking to a media portal, the actor said, “That film is definitely coming. I started that before, and its shooting has also wrapped. I started Jaat after that. But that is taking slightly longer because Aamir Khan is the producer, and he’s aiming for perfection in editing.”

Deol also disclosed that the first person to approach him and offer him Lahore 1947 was Aamir Khan. Deol added, “We have been working on Lahore 1947 for so many years. Several actors heard the story, and many of them were supposed to do it as well, but it didn’t happen. But Gadar 2 made everything happen.”

He said, “Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya is a play that we had been trying to adapt into a film for many years. However, because there was no success, it was financially difficult to make. When Gadar became a hit, we were really delighted, thinking someone might eventually make it. And Aamir was the first person who came forward and said, ‘Sunny, I want to make this film’.”

The plot features a Muslim family that moves from Lucknow to Lahore during the partition. They discover an elderly Hindu woman who is refusing to leave the haveli where they live, which was abandoned by a Hindu family.

The Sunny Deol-starring movie broke multiple box office records and became a huge success. The filmmaker chatted with us confidentially earlier this year and provided us with an update on Gadar 3. He has now spoken out about Nana Patekar’s role in the action movie.

Anil Sharma was discussing his next film Vanvaas with Nana Patekar in a conversation with Lallantop Cinema. The director was questioned about whether he would consider including a character in Gadar 3 while keeping the elder star in mind. In response, Sharma said he had discussed it with Nana several times. “Meri baat hui hai 1-2 dafe. Humari baatein hoti hai,” he added

The filmmaker went on to say that there is currently nothing that can be done about Gadar 3. “Lekin aese kuch ho paae ke Nana sir aa paae Gadar 3 me aur aesa kuch character bann jae toh boht he achi baat ho. (But if something could happen and Nana sir could join the Gadar 3 team then it would be a good thing.)”

Earlier, in converation with Pinkvilla he stated, “Gadar 3 ki abhi tayariyan chal rahi hain, kahaani chal rahi hai (The preparations are in full swing, and we’re working on the script).”

Sharma revealed that Gadar 3 will be released in 2026 at the prestigious Pinkvilla Screen & Style Icons Awards. He stated, “Aaegi part 3 bhi aaegi 2026 me bol k jaa raha hu.”

He continued, “Gadar created history and for that, I want to thank movie lovers. It was one of those films that received lots of love from the audience. I would like to thank the industry for that because when Gadar was released, so many people from the industry called me and said that the film gave the industry another life. I am thankful to Sunny sir (Sunny Deol), to my unit and everyone and the audience of the world.”

Shooting of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Sunny Deol’s Lahore: 1947 to conclude by July 2024

Kartik Aaryan and Sunny Deol have been shooting in Mumbai for their respective movies, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Lahore 1947, for the past few months. While director Rajkumar Santoshi received the most of the dates from Sunny Deol, Kartik Aaryan has been Rooh Baba for Anees Bazmee. Pinkvilla claims that production on Lahore: 1947 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will conclude by July 2024.

“Kartik Aaryan and co. kicked off their journey on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 on March 9, 2024 with Anees Bazmee as the captain of the ship. The shoot has been going on as planned and the makers are on track to call it a wrap by July 2024. Bhushan Kumar and team are committed to bringing the horror comedy to the big screen during the Diwali 2024 weekend,” mentioned a source associated with the film’s updates, as published by Pinkvilla.

Three songs, including Ami Je Tomar and Kartik Aaryan’s intro number, have already been shot and the team is bullish on them to hit the bull’s eye. The makers are working on a short teaser too to reannounce the date and this might happen sometime in July,” the source reported as per Pinkvilla. Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit, and Tripti Dimri will play the leading roles in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, complemented with the ensemble including Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, and Vijay Raaz.

Fast-moving filming for Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947 is already underway at Madh Island in Mumbai, where Rajkumar Santoshi and crew are recreating the 1947 Lahore setup. “Lahore: 1947 is looking at a Republic Day 2025 release and the shoot is expected to wrap up by end of June. Makers have already shot for 50 days and another month of shoot remains,” the source added.

Some of the film’s most dramatic scenes have already been filmed, the source added.

“It’s a mass film, but not loaded with action. The larger-than-life elements arise out of the dramatic moments and characterization. It’s a new side of Sunny Deol – aggressive, but fighting for the right,” the source mentioned.

Aamir Khan Productions is behind Lahore 1947, which stars Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Mona Singh in a powerful ensemble. While there have been speculations that Aamir Khan might make a brief appearance in this film.
