It is not necessary to have a large budget to create an opulent residence. You can turn your modest home into an opulent retreat with a little imagination and hard work. The following are some low-cost tips from Punam Kalra, the creative director and interior designer of I’m the Centre for Applied Arts:
Colour Schemes

To establish a soothing foundation, Kalra advises utilizing neutral hues as a backdrop. For standout pieces, use jewel tones to add flashes of color and visual intrigue. “A mustard cocktail table can complement an original macrame tapestry background,” she adds.
She further added that a teal chaise can look great with a wall covered in slatted walnut wood, an emerald dresser can go well with a life-size Frank Stella wall painting, and a burgundy recliner can be the focal point of a beige wallpaper.
Customised Statement Pieces

“A crystal chandelier adds a touch of elegance and sets the mood, while an antique Chesterfield sofa offers timeless appeal. A Parisian apothecary table and a Windsor armchair are classic pieces that bring a holistic character to your living space,” she recommends.
A Hint of Luxury

According to Kalra, plush textiles can give your showpiece items an opulent, tactile touch. “Satin silk provides a beautiful sheen, while embossed velvet adds visual interest and texture. Textured boucle offers a cozy and inviting feel, and milk leather brings a soft and natural look,” she continued.
Ice-breakers

“Incorporate conversational pieces like commissioned artwork or a gallery wall with monochrome photo frames,” she recommended. “Each piece should tell a story about the art and the effort behind its creation.”
Vintage Charm

You may add a sense of luxury to your interiors by designing a sophisticated yet traditional style. “Include elements like wood wainscotting, marble tile floors, fur rugs, bracketed wrought iron shelves, suede cabriole sofas, and velvet tufted ottomans,” added Kalra. “These pieces add a touch of decadence, making the space appear rich and inviting.”
