Mumbai Hospital Installs New Radiation System, Aiming for Safer and More Precise Cancer Treatment

As cancer cases continue to rise across India, one Mumbai hospital is turning to advanced technology to make treatment safer and more precise. The hospital has introduced the Radixact® Treatment Delivery System, a next-generation radiation therapy machine designed to target tumors more accurately while protecting healthy parts of the body.

Unlike conventional radiation machines, Radixact uses real-time imaging to track the tumor’s exact location—even adjusting for small movements like a patient’s breathing. A built-in CT scanner helps doctors ensure that radiation is delivered only where it’s needed, reducing side effects and improving overall effectiveness.

Doctors say the system can treat various types of cancer and allows for higher radiation doses with greater safety.

The hospital is also combining this technology with genomic testing to personalize treatment even further. Using a 500-gene cancer panel, doctors can better understand the genetic makeup of a patient’s tumor and design more targeted therapies.

Dr Santosh Shetty, Executive Director and CEO of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Medical Research Institute said,  “At Kokilaben Hospital, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of medical innovation to ensure our patients receive the most advanced and effective treatment. The adoption of the globally acclaimed Radixact® system marks a major leap forward in our commitment to delivering world-class cancer care. As a centre that continues to be recognized for its leadership in oncology, we are proud to bring one of the most sophisticated radiation technologies to India. This upgrade reaffirms our dedication to adopting global standards that improve both clinical outcomes and quality of care.”

India has seen a steady increase in cancer diagnoses, and access to early detection and effective treatment remains uneven. Experts say integrating advanced systems like Radixact could help bridge some of those gaps—especially in large urban centers where infrastructure is rapidly evolving.

For patients and families navigating the uncertainties of cancer, such advancements offer one thing above all: a bit more clarity, and a bit more hope.
