Vimal Mehra’s “Agni-Samadhi” Launched: A Poetic Tribute to Chittorgarh’s Sacrifices

Senior poet Vimal Mehra’s narrative poem Agni-Samadhi was unveiled at a grand event hosted by the Society for Creative Satisfaction in Bal Niketan School, Jodhpur. The poem narrates the historic bravery of Chittorgarh’s first Saka (battle) and Jauhar (self-immolation), encapsulating a pivotal moment in India’s history.

The event was presided over by senior critic Dr. Ramakant Sharma, with noted writer Dr. Haridas Vyas as the chief guest and storyteller Hari Prakash Rathi as the guest of honor. Society president Dr. Sunil Mathur welcomed the attendees, while secretary Kamal Sharma highlighted the organization’s creative milestones, marking its 25th year.

The dignitaries officially launched the poem and honored Mehra with traditional accolades, including a turban, shawl, and a memento. Mehra recited excerpts from Agni-Samadhi, leaving the audience captivated. Guest of honor Hari Prakash Rathi praised the poem’s ability to preserve India’s historical narratives through metrical poetry, stating, “This work is a significant addition to India’s literary tradition.”

Dr. Vyas emphasized the importance of emotional depth in poetry, commending Mehra’s ability to balance structure with sentiment. Dr. Sharma lauded the richness of India’s metrical poetry and encouraged its preservation amidst modern trends.

Vimal Mehra, celebrated for his collections Gaa mere mann gaa and Milan suron ki bansuriya, continues to contribute to India’s literary heritage. His upcoming narrative poem Shakutala is eagerly awaited by poetry enthusiasts.
