Tech Mahindra, a leading provider of IT services, declared on April 25 that it will hire 6,000 fresh graduates in the fiscal year 2025. This announcement defies industry norms, as peers generally reluctant to disclose their precise goals for fresh hire hiring in the face of a challenging business climate and unclear demand.

Nonetheless, its headcount decreased by 6,945 during the course of FY24. In FY18, it had already disclosed a decrease in headcount for the entire year.

The IT company has experienced a decline in its workforce for the entire year for the second time in its history during this financial year.

Mohit Joshi, MD & CEO, Tech Mahindra, mentioned in the results conference, “There is some reduction in the headcount that reflects the business volume that we are seeing. However, we are one company that is steadily adding fresh graduates and we are continuing on our path of absorbing 1500 plus fresh graduates every quarter – 6000 freshers being added each year.”

“We are also building out an intensive program to train these freshers under the new Chief Learning Officer. We are adding headcount in terms of fresh talent,” he further stated.

On the verge to revamp its business by 2027, Tech Mahindra intends to train and deploy a larger number of early career and younger employees. During the April 25 analyst call, CFO Rohit Anand mentioned that this will help with margin improvement.
