Rajasthan will receive 600 MW of solar electricity from SJVN Green Energy, a state-owned power generator, under a long-term agreement.

At a projected cost of Rs. 550 crores, the project will be developed on a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) basis.

According to a power ministry release, the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is for 100 MW of solar electricity from the Rajasthan Solar electricity Project, and the Power Usage Agreement (PUA) is for 500 MW of solar power from the Bikaner Solar Power Project. Both agreements are for a 25-year term. A long-term power usage agreement (PUA) for 500 MW of solar power and a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for 100 MW of solar power were signed on March 10, 2024, in Jaipur, by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, and Rajasthan Urja Vikas and IT Services Limited (RUVITL).

As per the agreement, SGEL would provide 500 MW of power from its 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, which is being developed under Phase-II (Tranche-3) of the Central Public Sector Units Scheme, to the Central Government at a tariff of Rs. 2.57 per unit. The 1000 MW Solar Project, which is being built in the Rajasthani village of Banderwala, Bikaner, is anticipated to produce 2,454.84 million energy units.

The project will be built on 387.56 acres of Sambhar Salts Limited land in Nawa, Rajasthan, which is being leased for a 28-year period to SGEL.

By agreeing to this PUA, SGEL has obtained a tie-up of the entire 1,000 MW project capacity, of which 300 MW would be provided to Jammu and Kashmir Power Corporation Limited (JKPCL) and 200 MW to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL).
