Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRL), formerly known as Titagarh Wagons, has secured a significant contract worth Rs 350 crore from the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC). The contract involves the comprehensive scope of designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, commissioning, and training for 30 standard gauge cars, designated for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II project.
The standard gauge cars are set to play a crucial role in expanding the Ahmedabad Metro Rail network as part of Phase-II. This development marks a significant step forward for the urban transportation infrastructure in the city.
According to Prithish Chowdhary, Director (Marketing & Business Development) at Titagarh Rail Systems, the company is tasked with the responsibility of building a prototype Metro car within a span of 70 weeks. The entire contract is scheduled to be completed within 94 weeks. The manufacturing of these cars will take place at the Uttarpara plant, located in Hooghly district.
The project entails the creation of 10 trains, each consisting of three cars, contributing to a total of 30 standard gauge cars. The Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase-II initiative, overseen by GMRC, is estimated to cost around Rs 13,500 crore. Upon completion, this endeavor will add an extensive 28.2 km of Metro lines to the existing metro network of the city.
Titagarh Rail Systems has been actively involved in contributing to the advancement of urban transportation across India. Notably, the company recently secured another contract for the supply of 24 Metro trains for the Phase-I of the Surat Metro project. This contract, valued at approximately Rs 850 crore, further solidifies Titagarh’s role in shaping the future of efficient and sustainable public transportation systems in the country.
Beyond these accomplishments, Titagarh Rail Systems is engaged in several other Metro rail projects across India, indicating its commitment to fostering modern and reliable transportation solutions to support urban growth and development.
