The BHIM Payments App, developed by NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), has introduced a set of new features aimed at strengthening digital payments and enhancing financial inclusion across India.
The app, which supports more than 15 Indian languages including Marathi, has been optimised for low-connectivity areas to ensure smooth transactions in rural and semi-urban regions. It has also been designed with a simple, clutter-free interface to make adoption easier for users across age groups.
BHIM has continued to gain traction in recent months. In June 2025, it processed 79.58 million transactions worth ₹12,110 crore — reflecting a year-on-year growth of nearly 212% in volume and 46% in value compared to June 2024.
The latest update brings advanced features such as expense splitting, family account management, spending analytics, reminders for pending bills, and a new “UPI Circle” option that allows users to delegate limited payment rights to trusted individuals with real-time oversight.
Ms. Lalitha Nataraj, MD & CEO, NBSL, said, “BHIM Payments App is designed to meet the needs of today’s users in the fast-evolving world of digital payments. Built for Bharat, it prioritises safety, convenience, and inclusion. It reduces cash dependency with seamless small-value transactions, even in low-connectivity areas. The App enhances the user experience while promoting financial empowerment across all sections of society.”
NBSL, a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) incorporated in 2024, oversees the development and expansion of the BHIM platform. The current version of the app, introduced in March 2025, marks the third major evolution since its original launch in 2016.
