Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL), a part of the Hinduja Group, has announced the appointment of Deepak Thakur as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2025.
With over three decades of experience spanning renewable energy, infrastructure, industrial products, and electronics, Thakur brings extensive leadership expertise to the role. He has previously held key positions at Mahindra Group, Reliance, Sterling & Wilson, L&T, Honeywell, and Thermax.
His career covers the entire renewable energy value chain — including solar, wind, storage, and hybrid systems — with a focus on project development, EPC, O&M, technology, manufacturing, and asset monetisation through InvITs.
Thakur succeeds Sumit Pandey, who has stepped down from his position.
Commenting on the appointment, Shom Hinduja, Chairman of HREPL, said,
“As we continue to strengthen our aspiration to be a leading player in the renewable energy domain, Deepak’s vast experience and leadership will be pivotal in our journey ahead. We are delighted to have him on board and thank Sumit for his foundational contributions.”
Expressing his enthusiasm, Deepak Thakur said,
“It is a privilege to be part of the Hinduja Group. The group’s deep commitment to renewables aligns strongly with India’s energy transition, and I look forward to contributing to this exciting journey of impact and growth.”
A strong advocate of clean energy and sustainability, Thakur played a key role in formulating India’s National Solar Thermal Policy (2009), which laid the foundation for the country’s clean energy roadmap. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pune and an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management.
