India’s Pet-Care Boom: How Brands Like Zigly Are Expanding Footprints to Meet a $25 Billion Opportunity

India’s relationship with pets is undergoing a massive transformation. What was once a niche market for dog food and vet visits has now become one of the country’s fastest-growing lifestyle industries — spanning healthcare, grooming, retail, and technology. As India’s pet-care market races toward an estimated ₹2.1 trillion (US $25 billion) valuation by 2032, brands are aggressively expanding their physical presence across cities to meet the growing demand for premium, holistic, and accessible pet services.

The Rise of India’s Pet-Care Economy

According to Grand View Research, India’s pet-care services market was valued at around US $485 million in 2023 and is projected to reach US $1.02 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 11.3%. The pet food market alone — the largest segment — stood at US $843 million in 2024 and is expected to nearly double to US $1.98 billion by 2030, registering a robust 15.4% CAGR.

The underlying growth is being driven by several factors:

  • Rising pet ownership — India’s pet population has surged from 22 million in 2018 to nearly 38.5 million, according to Agriculture Canada.

  • Millennial and Gen Z pet parents — young professionals with higher disposable incomes now treat pets as emotional companions, not just animals.

  • Urbanisation and nuclear families — more households are adopting pets for companionship, stress relief, and emotional well-being.

  • Premiumisation trend — as spending capacity rises, pet owners are shifting from basic food and accessories to specialised diets, preventive healthcare, and wellness experiences.

In short, India’s pet-care story is not just about growth — it’s about cultural change.

With this demand surge, the industry is seeing a structural shift from fragmented, service-specific outlets to integrated, experience-driven pet-care ecosystems. Brands are investing in omnichannel platforms that blend physical service centres with digital convenience — enabling online vet consultations, app-based bookings, and subscription-based food and grooming packages.

Companies like Heads Up For Tails, Wiggles, Supertails, and Zigly are leading this transformation. Each of them is building an ecosystem that covers every aspect of pet parenting — from healthcare and nutrition to spa services, retail, and digital engagement.

A major example of this expansion is Zigly, the tech-enabled omnichannel pet-care brand under Cosmo First Limited. Zigly has opened its first full-service pet-care centre in Pune, located at Shop No. 5, VTP Celesta, NIBM Annex, Vibgyor School Road, Mohammed Wadi.

This new facility offers the complete Zigly experience — combining:

  • Comprehensive veterinary care

  • Spa and grooming services for dogs and cats

  • A curated range of pet food, accessories, and lifestyle products

  • In-house labels such as Applod, Fur Pro, and Zigly Lifestyle

The centre will also roll out 24×7 veterinary care soon, strengthening its position as one of India’s few brands offering round-the-clock pet healthcare. Zigly already operates in major cities such as Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Bengaluru, Secunderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Indore, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Ludhiana — and Pune marks its entry into the fast-growing Western India region.

Speaking on the launch, Pankaj Poddar, Group CEO, Cosmo First, said:

“Pune represents a dynamic and growing pet parent community that resonates with Zigly’s philosophy of responsible and joyful pet ownership. With this expansion, we’re bringing world-class pet wellness closer to home, driven by technology, empathy, and expertise.”
