West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee marked the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan by celebrating with former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray at his residence in Mumbai.

During the celebration, Banerjee tied a rakhi to Thackeray and shared joyful moments with his family. The images of this special Raksha Bandhan celebration were shared on social media by the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The TMC’s post read, “Today, Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt @MamataOfficial celebrated Rakhi with Uddhav Thackerey ji and his family at his residence in Mumbai. They exchanged good wishes and celebrated the special day with smile and laughter.”

Banerjee’s visit to Mumbai coincides with the two-day opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc meeting set to commence on Thursday. This gathering will see participation from leaders of 26 political parties within the opposition. Congress leader Naseer Hussain revealed that the agenda for the meeting includes discussions on the action plan, organizational structure, logo, and strategies for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The opposition alliance’s meeting comes shortly after the Central Government’s decision to reduce LPG gas cylinder prices by ₹200 for all consumers. The decision included an additional subsidy of ₹200 under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), bringing the total subsidy amount to ₹400. Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to this move as a Raksha Bandhan gift for ‘sisters.’ However, the timing of this decision has raised questions from the opposition.

Mamata Banerjee had earlier commented on the situation, posting on social media, “Till now, only TWO meetings have been held in the past TWO months by the INDIA alliance and today, we see that LPG prices have gone down by Rs. 200. This is the might of INDIA!”

This year’s Raksha Bandhan celebrations for Mamata Banerjee have seen her participating in multiple events. Prior to her celebration with Uddhav Thackeray, she shared the joy of the festival with Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan and his family at their residence in Mumbai. She expressed her admiration for the Bachchan family, referring to Amitabh Bachchan as a ‘Bharat Ratna’ and expressing her belief that he should have received the prestigious award long ago.
