Prime Minister Narendra Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the 2025 G20 Summit in Johannesburg, reaffirming the deep strategic partnership shared between India and France. The summit, being held in South Africa from 22 to 23 November 2025, brought together global leaders for high-level discussions on economic collaboration, global governance and geopolitical stability.

Sharing a photograph of their interaction on social media, Prime Minister Modi wrote that he was “delighted” to meet President Macron during the summit and described their conversation as an “engaging exchange on different issues”. He further emphasised that India–France ties “remain a force for global good”, reflecting the longstanding cooperation between the two nations across defence, climate action, technology and Indo-Pacific stability.

The image posted shows the two leaders warmly shaking hands, reinforcing the mutual respect and close rapport they have developed over the past several years. France remains one of India’s key strategic partners, and the two countries have consistently aligned on global challenges ranging from counter-terrorism to renewable energy transition.

Modi’s meeting with Macron comes at a crucial moment in global politics, with the G20 Johannesburg agenda centred around sustainable development, African economic growth, and strengthening multilateral systems.
