In a sign of how fast rooftop solar is catching on in India, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) added more than 45,500 new rooftop solar systems in just the first quarter of FY26. That’s a 416% jump from the same period last year — one of the sharpest spikes in recent times.

This brings the company’s total rooftop solar count to over 2.04 lakh installations, with a combined capacity of 3.4 gigawatts (GW). The growth reflects India’s increasing shift toward cleaner, decentralised energy, and how large-scale companies are helping households and businesses tap into the sun for their power needs.

Much of this momentum is tied to the government’s Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, aimed at making rooftop solar more accessible. TPREL has been actively contributing through its ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign, which helps residential, commercial, and industrial users make the switch.

More than 1.8 lakh homes have already made the transition with TPREL’s support. And with a network of 604 channel partners and 240 service providers across 900+ cities, the company is making rooftop solar accessible in both big cities and smaller towns.

TPREL isn’t stopping at installations. It’s also backing up the shift to solar with serious manufacturing muscle — operating a 4.3 GW facility for solar cells and modules in India. This is part of a broader national effort to reduce dependence on imported energy and reach 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

In simple terms: more Indian homes are going solar, and Tata Power is one of the major forces helping make that happen.
