Telecom operator Vi has introduced a new scheme offering 24 extra days of validity per year to its 2G handset customers, aiming to ease the burden of frequent recharges.
Under the new ‘Vi Guarantee’ programme, users on unlimited voice prepaid plans of ₹199 and above will receive two additional validity days with every recharge, adding up to 24 extra days annually. The offer is targeted at low-data or voice-only users, who often have to recharge multiple times a month due to the 28-day cycle common across most plans.
The move comes at a time when India’s feature phone user base still represents a significant chunk of telecom subscribers, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. According to Vi, the scheme is designed to offer convenience and reduce service interruptions for users relying on 2G networks.
What the offer includes:
-
Applies to users with 2G handsets on unlimited voice packs starting ₹199.
-
Additional 2 days of validity per recharge, extending the usual 28-day pack to 30 days.
-
Available via USSD code *999# or by calling 1212.
The scheme includes popular plans such as:
| MRP | Pack Benefits | Validity | Extra Validity |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹199 | Unlimited calls + 2GB data + 300 SMS | 28 days | +2 days |
| ₹209 | Unlimited calls + 2GB data + caller tunes + 300 SMS | 28 days | +2 days |
(Note: Data allowance may vary in some regions like Assam, Odisha, and Rajasthan.)
Vi has also confirmed that its existing Vi Guarantee for 4G and 5G users—offering 130GB of extra data over 13 billing cycles—will continue. That programme is applicable on daily data plans of ₹299 and above.
While the telecom sector aggressively shifts toward 4G and 5G services, Vi’s focus on retaining and servicing its 2G user base reflects the slow but ongoing digital transition among millions of voice-centric mobile users in India.
