5 K-pop idols who went through extreme diet routines for weight loss
Unfortunately, a lot of K-Pop idols have diets, and many have told tales of severely limiting their food intake.
The extremely high beauty standards that idols are expected to meet can be very stressful for those who don’t feel like they match that description. These five K-Pop stars are extreme dieters, and we would never advise anyone to follow their example.
1. Xiumin (EXO)
Since his debut, Xiumin has faced harsh criticism regarding his weight, which has caused him to struggle with it and engage in “yo-yoing,” or abrupt weight loss and gain. The EXO member underwent his most drastic diet—the coffee diet—during the 2013 “Growl” promotional period. To help with fast weight loss, this involved eating only one meal every other day and consuming a lot of coffee. He reached his lowest weight during promotions, but he was fortunate to regain some weight and return to a healthy level thereafter.
2. T.O.P (former BIGBANG member)
The artist was informed that he would not make his debut until he attained the ideal weight when he was still a trainee at the company because his weight exceeded what was “acceptable” by idol standards. As a result, T.O.P. began an unhealthy diet consisting solely of mineral water, unsweetened jelly, and occasionally red beans as a snack. He also worked out a lot every day on top of this.
3. Momo (TWICE)
The artist was advised by JYP Entertainment to shed fifteen pounds before making her debut. in a week or less. Momo consumed nothing but ice cubes during that entire week, and she also went to the gym nonstop. At one point, she even admitted that she was afraid for her life. Not only was she extremely dehydrated, but she also had difficulty falling asleep because she was afraid she wouldn’t wake up. Momo was given three more days to lose the 15 pounds she needed to, since she failed to do so in spite of her severe dieting .
4. Jimin (BTS)
Although Jimin appears to have followed the most drastic diet of all the BTS members, he is not the only member to have battled with weight and dieting. He disclosed in 2018 that his unhealthy diet and excessive exercise had caused him to lose a significant amount of weight. During the period known as “Blood Sweat & Tears,” Jimin would often pass out during practice, which caused the other members to become very concerned for him. For ten days, consuming only one meal and nothing else. During a BTS appearance on an episode of Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, he admitted to following a strict regime. He said that he didn’t like how “chubby” he looked, probably because of his naturally full cheeks.
