Sanya Malhotra’s recent film, Mrs., has generated a lot of hype. After seeing the final edit, veteran actor Kanwaljit Singh, who plays Richa’s father-in-law in the movie, expressed his feelings. He instantly apologized to Richa, admitting that he was extremely troubled by the way his character treated her.

Kanwaljit Singh stated in an exclusive interview with Hindi Rush that his role, along with many others in the movie, symbolizes the unjust dominance that many women face in their homes. Kanwaljit claimed that after seeing the movie, he was so offended by his character’s actions that he went straight to Sanya and expressed his regret. “Mujhe apne upar bada gussa aaya, aur maine pata nahi kyun, spontaneously Sanya se bola, ‘I am sorry,’” Kanwaljit shared.

He added that Sanya was left surprised and asked why did he apologise to which he added, “Nahi yaar, bahot bura kiya tere saath.” He acknowledged that he had forgotten the difficulty and injustice of his character’s acts, and that he was really saddened by Sanya’s depiction of Richa’s suffering.

The film, which was directed by Arati Kadav, has received accolades for its unvarnished storytelling and profound emotional content. It also stars Nishant Dahiya, in the lead role. Impactful discussions regarding the hidden challenges women experience in conventional family structures have been triggered by the film, especially among women.
