At the 40th Television Critics Association Awards on Friday, Anna Sawai was finally given credit by the critics for her work. She won the storied individual achievement in drama category for her portrayal of noblewoman Toda Mariko on FX’s smash series Shogun.
The drama series, directed by Hiroyuki Sanada and set in feudal Japan, defeated many TV legends, such as The Bear, Baby Reindeer, Fargo, Ripley, and others, to win the most honors at the ceremony.

The ensemble-led historical drama directed by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks likewise succeeded spectacularly, winning two of the most coveted awards of the evening: outstanding new program and outstanding achievement in drama.

The late, late Emmy-winning actor André Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Bojack Horseman, Thief) was honored as the Career Achievement honoree at the event, where he was posthumously praised.
