Anurag Kashyap has been connected to the Indian cinema business for decades. He produced and directed numerous films in addition to acting in a few. However, as of now, he considers that Bollywood has become ‘poison’
Kashyap has frequently praised the South Indian cinema industry. He stated in a 2023 interview with Pinkvilla that his films would have done better at the box office if he had been born in Kerala or Tamil Nadu. However, he is powerless to change anything because he must make it in Hindi. He acknowledged leaving Mumbai by 2025 in a different interview conducted previous year.
Now, in an exclusive chat with The Hindu, the filmmaker confirmed that he has left Mumbai. Sharing the reason behind it, he divulged, “I want to stay away from film people. The industry has become too toxic. Everyone is chasing unrealistic targets, trying to make the next Rs 500 and Rs 800 crore film. The creative atmosphere is gone.”
Kashyap claimed to have already paid the first month’s rent for his flat in the new city, but he did not disclose where he has chosen to relocate. There are rumors that he has relocated to Bengaluru. Last year, Kashyap stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India that he intends to relocate to southern India since Bollywood lacks the excitement of filmmaking.
He stated in conversation with the outlet, “That’s why I want to move out. Literally, next year, I’m moving out of Mumbai.”
The director-producer is currently working on Footage, a Malayalam film starring Manju Warrier as the protagonist.
