Meghna Gulzar, the director of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Raazi, Sam Bahadur, and Talvar, has locked the script for her next project. Sources close to the development claim that Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming film is inspired by the horrific real-life events that occurred in 2019. Casting for the drama, which does not yet have a title, is now underway as the director prepares to launch it on screens before the end of the year.
“It’s a hard-hitting film that warrants the presence of actors with the calibre of Ayushmann Khurrana and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The duo has read the script and were shocked by the details of the case. After Talvar, this is another film that could shock the nation and stir a conversation about the case,” mentioned a source as quoted by Pinkvilla.
“Meghna is looking to take the film on floors by the end of 2024. It will arrive in the cinema halls in 2025,” the source added. Though Kareena and Ayushmann have agreed to work on the movie in principle, there is still paperwork to be completed, and the closing is scheduled for two weeks from now.
According to news reports, Meghna Gulzar’s next film is based on the 2019 Hyderabad rape and murder case, when four men were apprehended and imprisoned for raping a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Shamshabad, Hyderabad, in November 2019. Later, when they were being escorted to rebuild the crime site, they were shot and killed by the Hyderabad police.
Ayushmann and Kareena’s first ever collaboration

“Meghna has done all her research on the subject through the last few years and had a strong source material on place for her screenplay. She was moved by all that happened. Kareena and Ayushmann resonated with the emotions and are looking forward to team up on this special project,” the source wrapped up.
Industry insiders have revealed that Junglee Pictures would produce Meghna Gulzar’s forthcoming film “Daayra,” which will star Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana in pivotal roles.
