Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane, was the most popular pick this weekend. It’s interesting to note that the tragic love story did better than this weekend’s new releases, Daring Ravi Kumar and Loveyapa.
The film had a strong opening weekend of Rs 4 crore and made almost Rs 15 crore in its first weekend of the second inning, which is the highest opening weekend total for a re-release film. Additionally, the movie made more than the Rs 8 crore it made during its initial run at the box office.
At least until Chhaava arrives on February 14, Sanam Teri Kasam is poised to rule the entire week. Given how well the film fits with the romantic concept, it will be interesting to watch how it does on Valentine’s Day.
In their rerun, Padmaavat and Bareilly Ki Barfi were unable to draw in viewers. It’s interesting to note that both enjoyed great success in their initial run. Even so, they continue to be merely spectators at the box office and may have achieved a low total thus far.
Other re-releases, such Bachna Ae Haseena, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, and Silsila, had relatively few nationwide showings, therefore they weren’t able to achieve anything spectacular at the box office.
The only movie that might remain in theaters once Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava opens next weekend is Sanam Teri Kasam. The remaining re-releases will have a dismal theatrical run.
