Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut-starrer Rangoon finally hit theatres, and high expectations were riding on the film.
The period drama, set in the World War II era, is said to be Vishal Bharadwaj’s most expensive film till date, reportedly with a budget of Rs 80 crore. Although the film released on the Mahashivratri holiday, early estimates suggest that the film made around Rs 6.75 crore, having released in around 1800 screens across the country.
Rangoon is a love triangle between film producer Rusi Bilmoria (Saif Ali Khan), actress Miss Julia (Kangana Ranaut) and soldier Jamadar Nawab Malik (Shahid Kapoor), set in the backdrop of pre-independence India.
The film has opened to positive reviews from critics as well as audiences. Vishal Bharadwaj, who extracted powerhouse performances from Shahid in Kaminey and Haider, and Saif in Omkara, has teamed up with Kangana Ranaut for the first time. It is expected to pick up over the weekend through word-of-mouth publicity.
