In response to the ongoing SUGA DUI controversy, BTS’s management label, BIGHIT MUSIC, released a new, in-depth statement on August 7 that addressed recent errors and provided clarifications regarding the artist’s incident.
BIGHIT MUSIC started their statement by sincerely apologizing for the pain the incident had caused them and admitting that their first response had been inadequate. The label acknowledged that their initial statements, which described the involved vehicle as a “electric kickboard,” caused a great deal of confusion.
The company stated that the term was misinterpreted and acknowledged that the vehicle’s actual classification may have an impact on the extent of liability for the collision. The mistake of not fully verifying the details before making a public statement was acknowledged, but they emphasized that there was no intention to minimize the seriousness of the incident. BIGHIT MUSIC promised to synchronize their remarks with the authorities’ findings after the vehicle’s official classification was determined.
The issue of fines and the potential cancellation of SUGAS license was also covered in the statement. BIGHIT MUSIC acknowledged that there had been a misunderstanding about what happened after SUGA’s police sobriety test, leading to the false impression that the issue had been settled.
About the incident
Around 11:30 PM KST, BTS’s SUGA was discovered operating a foldable electric scooter in Hannam Dong while intoxicated, according to reports from South Korean media earlier in the day. He stumbled and fell, but a patrolling officer who smelled alcohol helped him up. SUGA’s blood alcohol content was higher than allowed, according to a breath analyzer test. Both SUGA and BTS’s agency quickly apologized for the incident after it became public.
