This World Mental Health Day, actor Mreenal Deshraj gives us tips to better our mental health. The actor says that all emotional issues have a story behind them. “I have always believed in chakras in our body. All emotional issues start from our root chakra which is based on our childhood and upbringing.  We tend to suffer because of our childhood traumas. We become who we are, because of our experiences, upbringing, values and childhood memories. To find a cure and to find the answer to why the problem occurred in the first place, in order to find out why we are the way we are we should always go back to the basics. And you will find all the answers,” she says.

The actor says she has also suffered a lot in her life. “For me, life’s journey was tough as my upbringing was different. When you face the true world and see life with your own eyes and experience it, it is just the opposite. It is a cruel world I must say. Mine was an emotional journey more than an outer struggle. All my life, I was struggling with my emotional trauma which I hid from the world. I started to believe I could not trust people. I was open about my life only to a few friends and family members who were close to me knew me what was going on. And as for the world, I was a happy strong independent and successful woman,” she says.

Mreenal says that taking care of yourself is very important. “I believe that taking care of your mental health should always be everyone’s first priority. It all begins in our mind. How we react and how we think can affect our mind, body and spirit. The mind should be at place where we know the difference between right and wrong. That’s the basics which come from your value system and upbringing,” she says.

It’s important to share your problems with your loved ones, says the actor. “Whatever happens in your life, you should always share it with your family first as they know you better than anybody else and they will guide you without judging you or share it with somebody who understands you. Try to make friends with people who understand you and can guide you on the right path. Do something which makes you happy, maybe a hobby which you enjoy. Start doing that,” she says.

The actor says it’s important to trust god. “Certain things happen for a reason. This motto is what I strongly believe in. Trust God as he has a plan for each and everybody so just surrender to him. After a few years, you will understand why it happened to you and you will be happy that it happened,” she says.

It’s also important to keep working hard for your goals. “Keep working hard to achieve your goals. Karm karo aur phal kei iccha mat karo and you will get what your heart desires most. At least, I got everything I wished for,” she says.
