Courteney Cox is set to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in Scream 7. For the past few months, the actress’s return to the big screen with her legendary role has been the talk of town. Cox’s final appearance was in Scream VI, the first movie in the franchise without Neve Campbell.
In the film, Weather portrays an investigative journalist who has become a true-crime writer. The only two characters from the first movie to return for the upcoming series sequels are Campbell and the Cox.
In addition to the two, Roger L. Jackson as Ghostface Killer will reprise his role as well.

The actress said in a statement that she “made a very difficult” decision to not appear in the sixth film. She added that she had to turn down the opportunity when it came up because it “did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” Although the future film’s plot has not yet been revealed, it is known that David Arquette will return to the franchise if Cox’s character is granted her wish. Dewey Riley, meanwhile made his debut in the third installment.
Ahead of the announcement, Cox shared with a news portal, “It was sad, because Dewey is such a beloved character and he’s so goofy, and I thought he brought such a comedic twist to the whole franchise.” She further stated, “I think that was really—that was a downer.”
In addition to their on-screen romance, Dewey and Weathers were married for 15 years in real life. However, the sixth Scream murdered Dewey’s character.
The film will also feature Sam Rechner, Mason Gooding, Isabel May, Patrick Dempsy, among others. Jenna Ortega is also in negotiations to star in the seventh chapter of the movie.
