In 2024, Diljit Dosanjh has been in the news frequently. Through his Dil-Luminati tour in India and his role in the movie based on the late Punjabi artist Amar Singh Chamkila, the singer has improved his career graph this year.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Daler Mehndi talked about the success of Diljit Dosanjh and his performance as the deceased Punjabi folk artist Amar Singh Chamkila. Speaking about the issue, he said he was perplexed as to why, after supposedly cutting his hair for the film, the actor poses as a devotee and says he will not take off his pagdi, which is considered sacred by Sikhs.

He said, “I don’t understand. He keeps saying that he will never remove his pagdi. He presents himself as a devotee… But I don’t understand why he cut his hair for the Chamkila movie. I don’t think he should’ve done it. I have a big movie coming up myself, and I’m keeping my pagdi.”

Mehndi also talked about his memories of the late Punjabi folk artist in the same interview. The Rang De Basanti singer said that Chamkila’s popularity at the time attested to his stardom. But Chamkila’s parents forbade him from reciting his songs since they had double meanings.

Amar Singh Chamkila was a folk musician from Punjab who was controversial. A segment of society criticized him because he wrote songs with several meanings. A gang of shooters who came to his event later assassinated him in 1988.

A number of fans expressed concern about the actor’s hair style for the on-screen role of Chamkila. However, Imtiaz Ali, the film’s director, already responded to these rumors in an interview with Radio Nasha that Diljit Dosanjh wore a wig for the movie rather than getting his hair chopped.
