In the last month, Selena Gomez has lost more than 700,000 social media followers after receiving harsh criticism for posting an emotional video of herself in response to President Donald Trump’s plans for mass deportations.
The BBC reported that Gomez responded to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) operation on illegal immigrants in the US earlier this week, which led to 956 arrests.
In the last 30 days, Gomez’s Instagram following has decreased by 715,000, according to Social Blade.
In a clip, Gomez said: “I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” also adding an emoji of the Mexican flag.
She thereafter deleted the video, writing: “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”
“Girl You have the resources to do a lot. You could fund legal services, translation services, permanently fund mutual aid programs, direct action that disrupts raids, immigration assistance programs that facilitate these folks’ on their way in etc,” a user wrote.
“This is so pathetic. How about helping them come in the right way,” another added.
“Is Selena Gomez Mexican ??” asked third commented.
Meanwhile, a film called “Moms of Victims of Illegal Aliens SLAM” was published by the White House, to which You Didn’t Weep for Our Daughters, Selena Gomez said.
