According to Ed Sheeran, he hasn’t owned a phone since 2015. When the host requested to swap phone numbers, Sheeran supplied his email address rather than his phone number.

The singer clarified that he had thrown away the phone and said that, although his team had just recently provided him with a phone for work, he hardly ever used it and that it isn’t “actively used.”

Sheeran recently shared why he gave up his smartphone years ago during an appearance on Jake Shane’s talk show Therapuss. The Shape of You hitmaker graciously replied that he did not have a number when the talk show presenter asked if they might trade numbers during their open conversation.

In addition, Ed Sheeran disclosed that his team has provided him with a phone for emergency use. He specifically mentioned that the phone was provided to him during a recent NBA Eastern Conference Finals game at the Boston Celtics for “like video stuff that would then go up on social media.”  However, he mentioned that, “It’s not like an active working phone.”

The 33-year-old artist stated, “I don’t have a number,” adding, “… that isn’t me playing you off either. I don’t have, and it’s true.” He then told Jake Shane that he could have his email instead.

The singer disclosed that in December 2015, he made the decision to give up his phone after discovering he still had a large number of contacts from his time before becoming well-known.
He added, “I had the same number from, like, age 15, I think, and I got famous, and I had 10,000 contacts in my phone that would just… people would just text the whole time. And I was just constantly in touch with a lot of people.”
Sheeran observed that, “With phones, everyone expects you to reply. If you don’t, it’s rude.” The singer wrapped up, “I just was losing real-life interaction, so I got rid of [my phone], I got an iPad, I moved everything onto email, which I reply to once a week.”
