India’s Got Latent controversy: Samay Raina appears before Guwahati police; postpones tour

On Saturday, comedian Samay Raina made an appearance before the Guwahati Crime Branch in relation to the lawsuit against him for allegedly using his YouTube show “India’s Got Latent” to promote lewd and offensive content.

Raina had previously told the Guwahati Police that he was on a comedy tour outside India and would not be able to appear before them.

Ankur Jain, Joint Police Commissioner, Guwahati, told ANI that Samay Raina was questioned by police and that his statement was recorded in relation to the crime.

Guwahati Police filed a formal complaint (FIR) on February 10 against influencers and YouTubers, including Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and others, for promoting pornography and participating in obscene and sexually explicit conversations on the show “India’s Got Latent.”

Under sections 79/95/294/296 of BNS 2023 read with Sec. 67 of IT Act, 2000, read with Section 4/7 of Cinematograph Act 1952 read with Section 4/6 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, the Guwahati Crime Branch had filed a case via Cyber PS case no 03/2025.

Raina recently decided to reschedule his India tour due to the ongoing legal difficulties. He announced the news on Instagram and promised ticket refunds to his followers.

“Hello guys, I am rescheduling my India tour. You all will get the refunds shortly, see you soon,” he penned.

Ankur Jain, the Joint Police Commissioner, verified that notices had been sent to Raina, Chanchlani, Allahbadia, and other people included in the FIR.

“We have served notices, but they have not complied yet. We are looking into the matter as per legal procedure and will take action accordingly,” Jain stated.

The Maharashtra Cyber Cell called Rakhi Sawant, who also made an appearance on India’s Got Latent, to record her statement on February 27.
