Red Velvet’s members IRENE & SEULGI are bracing for a much anticipated comeback with a fresh release, TILT.
On May 16, a flurry of teaser images were made public featuring the striking chemistry and terrific visuals of the two artists. Most of them were welcomed with loved, both domestically and globally, however a specific has caused unforeseen controversies.

The teaser starred the glance of an oyster brimming with pearls, the concept picture seemed intimidating and too suggestive to the netizens. Oysters and pearls have been frequently linked to female genitalia, and fans felt that this may have gone too far.

A post on Korean community site TheQoo went viral, fetching more than 80,000 views and series of comments. The comments stated a clear disapproval an disgust for the teaser.
Post the backlash, SM Entertainment concurrently removed the oyster teaser in every social media platforms. Even though, the change was not substantiated with a statement but fans made a notice of it.

Nonetheless, amidst the hate, some slammed the negativity and mentioned that the teaser concept was deeply misinterpreted. While some deemed it to be not inherently vulgar and the power of symbolism which defines the identity and bodies of women.
