Imtiaz Ali has delivered successful films including Jab We Met, Rockstar, and Highway. Viewers have been awaiting sequels to some of his films. He followed suit a few years back with Love Aaj Kal 2, which, perhaps surprisingly, wasn’t a huge box office hit.

Imtiaz Ali explained why Love Aaj Kal 2 didn’t perform as planned in an interview with the Game Changers YouTube Channel. The director claimed that it grew heavy because he attempted to put too much into it. At this point, he also said that he would not be interested in creating sequels unless absolutely required.

However, he asserted that “Never say never” and added “ho sakta hai ki koi idea aa jae aur mujhey lage ki ye kahani, as a Rockstar Part 2 ya Rockstar thought, it might be nice (It might happen that I might that that a story, as a Rockstar 2 or Rockstar thought would be nice.)”

He made the similar statement regarding the Jab We Met sequel, saying that he is not actively considering it but that he is unable to comment more on it at the moment. “But kabhi aesa hota hai ke koi wild thought Rockstar ko leke aa jae. (But it might happen that a wild thought regarding Rockstar comes in my mind.)”

The filmmaker said he could have done a number of things differently when discussing Love Aaj Kal 2. He claimed that the film became thick and lost its simplicity. As a result, nobody understood what had transpired, and he thought the movie lacked originality.

“I had that reason, but I wasn’t able to express that. At least, it didn’t get expressed in the publicity of the film,” he said.
