Is Sabrina Carpenter’s latest single hinting at Shawn Mendes-Camila Cabello’s relationship?
Fans with keen eyes have detected another song, Coincidence, off her new album Short n’ Sweet, which may be about Cabello and Mendes.
Sabrina Carpenter is back with a new hot and happening studio album! Some of the tracks, including her new single Taste, have already become massive hits. Still, there are a number of reasons why the song has been making waves. The topic of the song has prompted conjecture among online users that Carpenter’s brief affair with Shawn Mendes, which ended in reconciliation with Camila Cabello in 2023, is relevant to the song.
The lyrics say,“I heard you’re back together and if that’s true / you’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you” It is well known that the Senorita vocalists dated from 2019 to 2021, progressed from being friends to lovers, then briefly got back together at Coachella in 2023.
But earlier in the year, the singer of Stitches was seen with Carpenter multiple times, and at the time, an insider informed ET that they were dating. “Sabrina and Shawn have started dating. The source added, “They have been spending a lot of time together and attempting to keep things low-key.” Therefore, Mendes and Cabello resumed their romance soon after the Espresso singer’s breakup, and all the clues point to that incident as the inspiration for the song.
On X (previously Twitter), a person said that Mendes was the “tasteless man” and Ortega was the singer from Havana. “The music video really showed that the only one to blame is Shawn and not Camila and they would know,” the tweet further read.

Carpenter sings, “You didn’t have any doubts last week / This week you’re holding space for her tongue in your mouth.” Some fans are curious as to whether this alludes to the ex-couple’s kiss at Coachella following their reconciliation. The final line of the song, “Oh, wow, you just broke up again / What a coincidence,” added credence to the rumors that the Bam Bam and In My Blood vocalists were calling it quits.
“I was today years old when I learned that Sabrina Carpenter and Shawn Mendes dated. Sabrina ate him up in Coincidence tho #ShortNSweet,” a tweet read. “Reading all the Shawn Camila sabrina threads to immerse myself in the short n sweet lore,” added another tweet
