IU’s polite and caring demeanor with her co-stars has long been widely appreciated. The mother of child actor Shin Chae-rin wrote a heartfelt post on April 3, 2025, regarding a surprise gift that IU organized when the new Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines was being filmed.
IU brought a fish-shaped bread truck, known as a bungeoppang truck (red bean pastry snack), to commemorate Shin Chae Rin’s last day on set. Everyone was moved by the gesture.
IU’s cute handwritten notes were visible in the snack truck’s pictures. A banner read, “Everyone’s beloved Shin Chae Rin. Chae Rin-ah, you’ve worked so hard. Thank you.” Another stated: “To the aunties and uncles who ate bungeoppang today, please love Chae Rin even more.”
Shin Chae Rin’s mother penned, “It was my first time seeing a fish-shaped bread truck. IU didn’t even say a word—she just sent it. It was so overwhelming… I couldn’t help but cry.” She continued, “We’ve received many generous gifts, but this exceeded all expectations. I’m speechless and endlessly grateful for how much IU and her mother love Chae Rin.”
IU starred with Park Bo Gum in the Jeju Island-set coming-of-age drama that explores Oh Ae Sun and Ywan Gwan Sik’s early years and how they overcome adversity to create a happy, contented existence for themselves, their kids, and their grandkids.
