IU’s defamation lawsuit: Offender fined with 3 mn KRW for her derogatory remarks

Recently, the court charged a woman in her 40s for her actions against IU. During the verdict, the court also took cognizance of the woman’s previous attempt to malign the singer’s image in 2022. As per The Korea Herald on June 5, the woman has been fined with a hefty sum.

IU’s repeat offender slammed with 3 million KRW fine

The Seoul Central District Court identified Kim as the person in question of the crime and thereafter asked her to pay a fine of 3 million KRW (2,200 USD). The charges mentioned s*xually offensive remarks made about IU, in addition to the comments that IU’s agency, Edam Entertainment, bribed the judiciary to deliver judgement in her favor in the first case.

Kim nonetheless stated that she never hinted at any specific individual or names in the comments, moreover they do not even vaguely get connected to IU.

The court granted leniency

The Seoul Court posed a lenient sentence for Kim in consideration of her previous charges and legal issues as a follow-up. Meanwhile, Kim even faced similar charges and fine for her offensive comments in 2022. According to IU’s representative, the actor-singer could not align well with the remarks poured on her and thereby the proceedings began.

Kim’s previous offence against IU

Kim earlier attacked the actor virtually in April 2022, and negatively commented on her singing and fashion sense. Even though, Kim claimed that the remarks were made on the basis of her personal opinion, her language potential was limited due to a mental health problem, the court deemed her guilty with a fine of 3 million KRW back in December 2023.
