The actress attended the Disney FYC event with Patricia Arquette, where the two engaged in conversation about the shows. The conversation then veered off into a variety of subjects, including Joey’s portrayal of a Jewish girl and preparing for challenging and poignant situations on set.

King said at the occasion that she was glad to be on stage with Arquette because they had previously collaborated in a project. “I’m very happy to be here tonight. And I’m going to bring out an actress who I have an incredible amount of respect for. I worked with her on a show called The Act. And she’s one of the most talented and generous actors that anyone could ever hope to work for.”

Furthermore she spoke about her role in The Act, “I think when your heart is in the right place, you care about the material, and you want to honor the material, you have to open your heart in a way to this collective experience.”

The actress then asked King if she was affected in any way by portraying Blanchard and how she felt about it now that she was out of jail.

In response, King said, “Yeah, it does.” She went on to say, “What I mean when I say that the least we can do as actors is feel overwhelmed by the emotion that we are given in a scene. That’s the least we can do. When playing someone who went through something so horrible, it’s a real person.”

The Bullet Train actress went on to draw comparisons between her role as Blanchard and Halina Kurc’s performance in We Were the Fortunate Ones.

Joey King’s take on Biopics

King acknowledged that parallels might be made while portraying an actual person while speaking to the audience at the function. “Gypsy is a person who is alive, and people can see her, hear her, and experience her in the world. And there’s a responsibility to that in a different way. Because it’s like, ‘Oh, some people can draw a direct comparison to… what I did.”

Further adding, “Gypsy sent me a message recently. We didn’t have any contact when we were filming the show, but since she’s been released, she reached out, and we had a quick little exchange, which was really nice.”

Joey King, who portrayed Gypsy Rose Blanchard on the Hulu series The Act, was honored with an Emmy Award.
