At the box office, Khadaan, which stars Dev in dual roles with Jisshu Sengupta, Barkha Bisht, Idhika Paul, and Anirban Chakrabarti, is minting exceptional figures. In West Bengal, the film marked a spectacular end to 2024.
Written and directed by Soojit Rino Dutta, the Bengali-language action thriller has impressed the audience with its content and execution. The audience is going to the movies because of the positive word-of-mouth.
Released on December 20, the movie faced a clash with two other Bengali releases. However, Khadaan lived up to the expectations and made a flying start on its opening day. Further, it grew very well on the weekdays and managed to recover its production cost on the 2nd weekend itself.
Based on its current updates, Khadaan is poised to become a prosperous domestic business. For a few weeks until the next Bengali blockbuster is released, it will continue to draw crowds to the theaters. With funding from Surinder Films and Dev Entertainment Ventures, Khadaan is paving the road to overtake Bohuropi, which starred Shiboprasad Mukherjee and Abir Chatterjee, as the highest-grossing Bengali film ever.
Dev portrays both his son Madhu and coal mine worker Shyam Mahato in Khadaan. His friend Mohan Das is portrayed by Jisshu Sengupta. Idhika as Mohan’s wife, Latika, and Barkha Bisht plays Shyam’s wife, Jamuna. Khandaan follows two coal mine laborers as they navigate their lives in a struggle for friendship and power. The film was shot primarily in Bengali coal mines. It is competing with Shontaan, directed by Mithun Chakraborty, which was also released on December 20.
