Fans are reacting negatively to the recent social media actions of Kim Sung Cheol of Our Beloved Summer, Kim Min Seok of Mr. Plankton, Kim Min Seok of Melomance, and others. During a dubious online survey that included well-known K-pop stars Kang Hye Won and former IZ*ONE Kwon Eun Bi, they were purportedly seen chatting.
According to fans, South Korean superstars should have done better things by using their entitled selves. After fans saw their names in the list of accounts that took part in the poll voting, Vincenzo actor Kim Sung Cheol also came under fire. In a vote concerning Kwon Eun Bi, the Instagram handle @m_l_i_j_201 of singer Kim Min Seok also surfaced. The survey would initially appear to be no different from past comparisons of people’s favorite celebrities. But it was more complicated than that.
About 700 of the posts on the aforementioned Instagram account, @idol.sojang, were sexual in nature. Fans found it unsettling that they featured slow-motion footage and pictures of the involved idols wearing skimpy attire. They raised ethical concerns about Korean celebrities who participated in the polls or engaged in other activities. In addition to singer Min Seok and actor Kim Sung Cheol, Kim Min Seok, Mr. Plankton’s supporting actor, was also the target of stark criticism.
He left a comment on a video of Kwon Eun Bi’s last spectacular performance at Waterbomb, in which the idol donned a skimpy outfit. By now, screenshots of their actions are widely available online. “His career should be buried forever,” “it’s always the ones that look innocent,” and other blunt comments were posted by fans. They even posted abusive comments on their Instagram posts. Regarding the page that posted the sexually suggestive content, many have reported the account in the hopes that Instagram will remove it.
