L2 Empuraan made its theatrical debut on March 27. For a Malayalam release, the movie’s first day earnings were amazing. But because of how it portrayed the Gujarat Riots, the Mohanlal film has been embroiled in controversy in recent days. According to the most recent statistics on Sacnilk.com, the movie has now made over 84.40 crore.
According to the report, L2 Empuraan made ₹5.50 crore on its seventh day of release, which is in line with preliminary projections. On its first day of release, the movie made ₹21 crore, which was twice the previous highest amount ever made by a Malayalam film. On its second day, meanwhile, the movie experienced a 45 percent decline, earning just ₹11.5 crore. Collections on days three and four totaled ₹13.25 crore and ₹13.65 crore, respectively. The film made ₹11.15 crore on day five. On day six, the earnings decreased even further to ₹8.55 crore.
On Wednesday, 31.35 percent of L2 Empuraan was occupied by Malayalam audience.
Mohanlal reprises his role as Khureshi Ab’raam, aka Stephen Nedumpally, in L2 Empuraan. After traveling abroad, he returns home with the assistance of Zayed (Prithviraj) to focus on stopping CM Jathin Ramdas (Tovino Thomas).
Post receiving criticism over the misrepresentation of the Gujarat riots of 2002, the team made 24 changes to the movie.
Mohanlal posted an apology note, “I have come to know that some of the political and social themes that have come into play in the film Empuran, the second part of the Lucifer franchise, have caused great distress to many of my loved ones. As an artiste it is my duty to ensure that none of my films harbors hatred towards any political movement, ideology or sect.”
